Good to know
Frequently asked.
Real production timelines, careful artwork reviews and answers to the details that matter.
How long does a custom order take?
We usually complete your initial image-quality and design-proof review in 2–3 business days after receiving a usable original file. After you approve and pay, typical small-order printing and finishing can take about 3–4 weeks; larger or specialty orders may take 4–8 weeks or longer. We then complete a final quality check and arrange delivery. A reasonable overall planning window is roughly 5–8 weeks or longer from complete inquiry to receipt. We will confirm an estimate for your particular order; deadlines are not guaranteed.
Why can my order take longer than expected?
Custom pieces move through image review, artwork approval, production, shipping and inspection. Severe weather, raw material availability, printer or machine problems, carrier disruptions, high order volume, customs processing, damaged or flawed prints, and reprints can extend the schedule. We will update you as we learn about significant delays.
When do I pay?
After the initial image check and design review, we send you a proof, final price and estimated production window. Once you approve, we send a secure payment request. Production starts only after payment is confirmed. We do not take payment through this preview site.
What happens if the finished board has a defect?
Before any handoff or final shipment, we visually check the finished board for obvious print issues, alignment problems and damage. If we identify a defect, we hold the piece and arrange correction when appropriate. A pre-delivery inspection cannot guarantee a flawless product or replace your consumer rights. Please report any issue after receipt promptly with photos, ideally within 7 days.
Can I order just one skateboard?
Absolutely. We offer one-off custom photo boards, original studio-designed boards, as well as multi-board murals. Standard shapes are easiest to quote; specialty shapes may cost more or have minimum quantities.
What photo resolution or file quality do I need?
We recommend an original, sharp JPG or PNG with enough pixels for the finished board size—ideally around 200 pixels per inch. A full-coverage 8 × 32-inch deck would ideally use roughly 1,600 × 6,400 pixels; murals need more total image resolution. Avoid screenshots and compressed images from social media. Keep the initial file at or below 10 MB unless we arrange a secure transfer. A photo below the suggested size may still work in a smaller placement or redesigned composition. We review its sharpness, crop and suitability within 2–3 business days before requesting payment.
What happens during the 2–3-business-day design review?
We examine your original file for resolution, blur, cropping, colors, important facial details near edges or mounting holes, and alignment between mural boards. We prepare or review a digital design proof, discuss changes if needed, and confirm the price and estimated completion window. No printing begins until you approve the proof and complete payment. Corrections or missing files can extend the review window.
Can I choose an old-school board or longboard?
Yes, subject to print-template and stock confirmation from our production team. We can quote classic street shapes, selected old-school styles and custom longboards. Some specialty designs may have minimum quantities or longer lead times.
Can one photo be spread across several boards?
Yes. A two- to six-board set can be prepared as one continuous composition. The boards are intended to hang side by side with a small, intentional gap; we will account for the gaps and shapes while preparing the proof.
Do you ship outside Hawaiʻi?
The displayed product price includes our preparation and production-side costs; there is no separate charge to bring the piece into our quality-review process. Your delivery charge is for shipping or hand delivery to you, including delivery within Hawaiʻi. Mainland and select international destinations are available by quote. Customs duties and import fees may apply.
Do you hand-deliver orders on Oʻahu?
Local handoff or delivery may be available by appointment in eligible Oʻahu areas, depending on scheduling and cost. There is no obligation to be photographed or filmed. If you would like to share your story with us publicly, we will ask separately for written permission.
Do you need my permission to post my photo or video?
Yes. We do not require customers to agree to social-media or commercial promotion in exchange for receiving an order. Any optional photo or video feature requires separate permission, and we will explain how the material may be used before you agree.
Do you offer wall mounts?
We can quote vertical floating mounts, mounting hardware and arrangements suitable for different wall substrates. The right fasteners depend on whether your wall is wood framing, drywall, concrete, tile, masonry or plaster. Visit our Wall Mounts page for an overview.
Can you install my mural?
We can evaluate eligible Oʻahu installation inquiries and provide a separate quote. Wall type, accessibility, mounting height, number of boards, travel and any licensing requirements affect availability. Some projects may require a qualified licensed installer.
What about returns and cancellations?
Because customized pieces are made for your approved design, we generally cannot accept change-of-mind returns once production has begun. We review defects, damage and mistakes individually and provide remedies as required by applicable law. See our Shipping & Returns page for details.
Will the finished colors exactly match my screen?
We review the art carefully, but device screens, natural wood grain, printing surfaces and lighting can create small variations. We cannot promise exact screen-to-print color matching. Please tell us if exact brand colors are essential before approval.
Is Board & Story giving back to the community?
Supporting the community is part of our long-term vision. We hope to collaborate with local artists and create future giving initiatives. We will publish the details when specific programs and partners are confirmed; no standing donation percentage is promised today.
Can I print a wedding photo, graduation, family portrait or business logo?
Yes. One-board portraits, horizontal group photographs, anniversary gifts, logos and multi-board office murals are all ideas we can review. We confirm layout, shape and printing suitability during our design review before payment.
A note on timing: Our artwork approval target is 2–3 business days. Manufacturing and transit are separate steps. Please contact us before ordering for a firm deadline, and don't assume a rush is available.
